Henry Case of Windsor, Connecticut sailed to California in 1849 with the Hartford Union Mining and Trading Company. His letters to his parents describe the voyage of the ship Henry Lee, life in San Francisco, and mining outside Sacramento. The letters are accompanied by an 1895 letter to Mrs. R. D. Luse concerning Case's letters and an 1939 article in the Hartford Times about the 1849 voyage.
